Final reflection for American Literature

When I walked into this class in August, I thought it would just be like any other English class I’ve taken in the past but I was wrong. Our first day we walked in and the the first thing he asked us as a class was if we wanted to do open source learning or a regular style English class. Dr Preston walked out of the class and had us discuss what we wanted to do for the year and when he came back in we told him we wanted to do open source.  I think throughout the year I found all of the the online tips and pro styles of writing most meaningful from this class. I think I’m mostly proud my blog and the project we did when we had to apply for our grade for the first semester. As I’ve mentioned before I feel like I could’ve kept up on the posts more often at times throughout the year. Looking forward I feel like all the ways we learned how to write a resumé and other things like that to apply for jobs in the future is a good thing to know. To end the semester I would like a letter grade...

My live over the corona break

Joseph Ybarra English Period 6 Unfortunately this school year was cut off a few months short due to a worldwide pandemic. When we had to finish the district said we had to finish the school year online it didn't really hit me until like a week later and I realized that this was the new normal. It was a hard transition for me at first and then I just turned it into a habit. It's different doing learning from home then when you’re in a classroom. Sometimes I sit and think to myself if we are ever gonna go back to how life was before this virus hit or if everywhere we go is going to take more precautions and tell everyone to wear a mask before you go somewhere. Being inside most of the time now and not going to some of the places i used to do weekly is a big transition for me. I'm used to going somewhere on the weekends or hanging out with my friends and then when they started closing everything was just shocking. The last time I saw my friends was actually our last da...

My life over the break

Over the break I have done a few new things I never really had time for. I started working out more, mowed the lawn a few times, watched a few Netflix series, and some work here and there. I’m really not aloud to leave my house to go anywhere unless I’m going from my moms house to my dads house. I hope the doesn’t last for much longer but by the looks of it this feels like it’s getting worse.

What are we learnig today?

I feel like with what's going on with this pandemic and with closing school I feel like with most classes teachers are assigning work and students don't bother to do it or look at it just because we're not in a classroom. In this class nothing really changed because we're use to our class already being online.

Cue Theme Music

I think that the central message and theme of the book is about Gatsby's life in the past and how he tries to fix things that he wished went differently all while trying to get Daisy to like him back. Gatsby does everything he can to try to impress her by throwing parties and covering her mistakes for her. 1. He tries to recreate the past by trying to get Daisy back. 2. He throws a party to see if she will come. 3. He covers Myrtles death for Daisy saying he killed her.

Preview of Gatsby Essay

I think that Gatsby has that sense of personality that like when he has something set in his mind he goes and gets it. He tries so hard and works at what he’s trying to accomplish and he’s a good man while doing what he does. For example, he really likes Daisy and he doesn’t stop chasing her until he gets what he wants. He wants her to love hime the way he does and no matter how hard it is he never gives up.

Chapter 7 notes

1. He stops having parties because he has daisy and he wants to keep it that way and wants his privacy now because he has what he wants. 2. He fires his staff to prevent gossip and rumors from spreading and he replaces them with shady people connected  to Meyer Wolfsheim. 3. When Gatsby met Daisys daughter he was surprised and shocked as opposed to when he met Daisy because when he met Daisy he knew he liked her as soon as they met. 4. Tom asks Gatsby about his intentions with Daisy and Gatsby tells Tom that she loves him and not Tom. 5. On the way back to Long Island Tom, Nick, and Jordan notice that there’s been an accident and soon they find out that it was Myrtle Wilson and they find out from a Greek man that works at a restaurant next to Wilson’s garage named Michaelis. 6. Tom and Daisy are eating fried chicken and talking with each other and I think at this time they were going and talking about their differences with each other.

Chapter 8 notes

1.  Gatsby tells Nick that he waited for Daisy until 4:30 in the morning. 2. Nick tells him to leave Long Island and forget about daisy. 3. Gatsby says that’s Daisy told him she’d promise to wait for him until after the war but when he came back she was married to Tom. 4. He knows that autumn is in the air and the leaves will be falling off the trees and the gardener is afraid the leaves with clog the drains. Gatsby tells him to wait a day because he’s never swam in his own pool. 5. Nick goes to the office to get work done and refuses to meet with Jordan Baker.  The tone and the whole mood of the story changes when they take things back to what happened at the garage with everyone the last time they were all together.

Gatsby Ch 6 Notes

The rumors about Gatsby in previous chapters still occur and are talked about in New York Gatsby’s early life is revealed He was born on a North Dakota Farm and his real name is James Gatz He went to St. Olaf’s college but he dropped out just after two weeks of going there Daisy wants to tell Tom that she never loved him 5 years before Gatsby and Daisy we’re walking down the side walk and they stopped and Gatsby leaned in and kissed her

Gatsby Ch 5 Notes

Gatsby  invites Nick on a trip to Coney Island Gatsby has a plan to invite Daisy over for tea but he wants Nick to agree to it first Gatsby shows them around his house and Daisy admires his luxurious lifestyle and When he shows them his collection of English shirts Daisy begins to cry Nick leaves them alone for a while and he comes back and it seems that they may have forgotten he was even there so Nick gets up and leaves.

Gatsby Chapter 4 Notes

Nick attends another party that Gatsby has One morning Gatsby goes to Nicks house and tells him that they are going to eat lunch in New York During the drive Gatsby tells Nick about his past They get pulled over and Gatsby shows the officer some white card and the officer just lets him go

Gatsby Test Ch. 1-4

Why does Nick move from Minnesota to New York? Who is Nicks neighbor? Who is Myrtle Wilson? How is Myrtles Character used as a metaphor in the story? Who is George Wilson? How are George and Tom different from each other? How does the green light symbolize the American dream? Who is Jordan Baker and what is she known for?

GATSBY CHAPTER 3

1) The rumors that were being spread were about how Gatsby killed someone and also that he is said to be a German spy during the war. I think he’s so mysterious because he probably doesn’t want people to find out these things about him. 2) Nick calls the man Owl-eyes because he wears glasses with huge eye lenses on them. 3)  Nick discovers that Jordan Baker is very dishonest and isn’t true to her word but it doesn’t seem to bother Nick. 4) Gatsby invites Nick to go “try out” his new hydroplane he just purchased and wanted to go at 9 o’clock the next day. 5) “I am one of the “FEW” honest people I’ve ever known” I think that the author mentions this because Nick thinks he’s nothing like the other people around him that are dishonest and spread secrets and rumors.

Gatsby beginning of chater 2

Im Ignited

1.Is school important? This was interesting because he said we don't learn what we need and people don't think its necessary for the future.- Michael Velasquez 2. Is life an illusion ? What caught my attention was how she said others see things different and have different views on things.-Jasmine Posas 3. Can we go without the internet? Some people spend so much time on their devices that people wouldn't know what to do without it or if they are away from them.- Gabriel Manriquez

HOPEPUNK

Hopepunk is when you sincerely and genuinely care about something and requires bravery and strength. I think that authors think this matters because they have to really feel and mean what they're writing. They use this style of writing to be sincere with their writing.

The world is my library

I feel like I would be more enthused and interested in novels that are adventurous and action filled. These stories and novels would catch my attention because there is always something happening and I feel like I would just be more into reading the book.

American Literature

American literature comes from your open thoughts and your imagination and putting them into words. I can contribute to this in different ways because its your own feelings and thoughts.
